TWD: Dulce de Leche Duos

Wooooo-eeeeee, these are some sweet cookies! If you've never had Dulce de Leche, you are missing out. It's basically caramelized condensed milk, cooked until it's thick and sweet, like the best caramel you have ever had. I had to restrain myself from eating spoonfuls of it straight from the can.

The dulce de leche is mixed into the batter and sandwiched between two fully baked cookies, for a double-punch of sweet caramelized flavor. I really loved the cookies themselves, without the sandwiched filling. That was a little too much sweetness for me. Alone, these cookies are buttery and soft, with an almost burnt-sugar undertone. Perfect with a glass of milk. Thanks for the great selection, Jodie! Check out her awesome blog for the recipe.

Your cookies look fantastic! I made my dulce de leche from scratch and it could have been thicker.

I can see where these might be too sweet for some. The dulce de leche is probably tops on the sweetness scale.

Yours look great!

Don't restrain yourself.

A spoonful of DDL is just what the doctor ordered.

YUM - sounds similar to Argentine alfajores....delicious but yes, very sweet. I know someone who would love these!

Oh I do think milk would be the perfect addition. I just added salt to mine and I think it helped with the sweetness. Either that or we have so many treats we don't notice too much any more! :)

I feel ya on eating the whole can! But we part ways on the filling. I have a major sweet tooth so the dulce de leche filling is a must for me. Ironically I wasn't feeling the choco+dulce de leche though. Go figure!

ah, you found the Nestle dulce de leche! I couldn't find it here (though, admittedly, I didn't look very hard) and have wondered how it compares to the homemade versions.

Fabulous looking cookies! I finally found dulce de leche in the store today, in a bottle, not a can. Going to try these tomorrow. :)
